Open Robotics at Heartland Regional Robotics Championship

CREATE FoundationDetails on the Open Robotics Division of the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship (HRRC) were released yesterday.  Not only Nebraska and Iowa teams will competing in the Open Division at HRRC, but also teams from Kansas and Missouri!  Here’s a quote from an email from CREATE Foundation’s yesterday:

For OPEN program teams the welcome mat will be even larger as teams from not only Iowa and Nebraska, but also Missouri and Kansas are eligible to qualify and participate in the OPEN Division of the Heartland Regional, assuring this to be the strongest field ever!

What are CREATE Open Robotics teams?

CREATE Open is an advanced Robotics challenge for students 12 Grade teams or younger.  The students are encouraged to test their engineering and design skills using any control system (VEX, Arduino, Lego, First, etc) they want for a modified version of the VEX Robotics Competition.

We’ve seen some amazing innovation in the OPEN division over the past two years.  Students are given the opportunity to think outside the box and dive deeper into creating their own solutions to the challenges that each season brings.

The modified rules and other details for the Open can be found here, http://create-found.org/CreateOpen.php  Are you interested in learning more?  Don’t hesitate to contact the CREATE Support team and they will help you out, their email address is [email protected].

The Open division starts with all the same rules as the VEX Robotics Nothing with the additional exceptions and rules here:

What does this mean?

Twenty-four Open Robotics teams will be qualifying for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship.  This will draw the best Open Robotics teams from a four state region.  These teams will be competing for 8 qualifying spots to the US Open Championships, where the top Open robots from all over the U.S. will be competing.  The eight qualifying spots are achieved through the following awards:

  • School Champions (2 teams)
  • Tournament Champions (3 teams)
  • Honor Award Winner (1 team)
  • Programming Skills Champion (1 team)
  • Robot Skills Champion (1 team)

If there are any duplicates in for the above awards, the remaining open World Championship Qualifying spots will be filled by the top skills challenge Scores.
