The Lincoln Intermediate VEX tournament was held in Mason City, Iowa. A very competitive tournament of both High School and Middle School teams competed for qualifying spots at the VRC Heartland Regional Robotics Championship. Notably, they saw world ranked Robot Skills scores posted by 2501B and 2501J. 2501B was 10th in the world with a score of 314. 2501J was 12th in the world with a score of 310.
This tournament qualified four teams for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship, the Excellence Award winner and the three Tournament Champion teams. The High School Excellence award was awarded to team 5233J (Justice League) from National Robotics Academy, Inc. The Middle School Excellence award was awarded to team 985A (Enlightened Luddites) from Mary Our Queen School. The Tournament Champions were 2501B (Optimus Dime) from Thomas Jefferson HS, 2501T (Where’s Aldo?) from Thomas Jefferson HS, and 367D (Trial & Error) from Solon MS.

Lincoln Intermediate VEX Tournament Awards
High School Excellence Award
5233J (Justice League) from National Robotics Academy, Inc were awarded the Excellence Award. This is awarded to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a well rounded VEX robotics program. This award also qualifies the team for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship & CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Middle School Excellence Award
985A (Enlightened Luddites) from Mary Our Queen School were awarded the Excellence Award. This is awarded to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a well rounded VEX robotics program. This award also qualifies the team for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship & CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Tournament Champions
Lincoln Intermediate VEX Tournament Champions were 2501B (Optimus Dime) from Thomas Jefferson HS, 2501T (Where’s Aldo?) from Thomas Jefferson HS, and 367D (Trial & Error) from Solon MS. The Tournament Champions are the three team Alliance that wins the Elimination Rounds of the tournament. This award also qualifies the team for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship & CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Tournament Finalist
Lincoln Intermediate VEX Tournament Finalists were 5233J (Justice League) from National Robotics Academy, Inc., 1970K (Knight Shift) from Mount Michael HS, and 367A (The Shady Bunch) from Solon HS. The Tournament Finalist are the three team Alliance that ends second in the Elimination Rounds of the tournament.
Programming Skills Winner
2501J (Full Metal Jackets) from Thomas Jefferson HS recorded the top Programming Skills score at 305 points. This award also qualifies the team for the CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Robot Skills Winner
2501B (Optimus Dime) from Thomas Jefferson HS recorded the top Robot Skills score at 314 points. The Robot Skills score posted by 2501B was 10th in the world rankings as of 5 pm, January 16th. Notably, 2501J also scored a 310 which is 12th in the world as of tonight.
Design Award
3018 (TechnoPwns) from TechnoPwn Robotics were awarded the Design Award. This is awarded to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project and time management and team organization.
Sportsmanship Award
9854 (Bears) from Blue Earth Area Schools were awarded the Sportsmanship Award. This is awarded to a team that has earned the respect and admiration of the volunteers and other teams at the event. The Tournament uses ballots for this award.
Judges Award
985B (Spartans) from Mary Our Queen School were awarded the Judges Award. This is awarded to a team the judges decide is deserving of special recognition. Judges consider a number of possible criteria for this award, such as team displays of special attributes, exemplary effort and perseverance at the event, and team accomplishments or endeavors throughout the season that may not fall under existing awards – but are nonetheless deserving of special recognition.
Lincoln Intermediate VEX Tournament Qualification Round Results
The tournament starts with Qualification Rounds, which are used to determine how you rank during the tournament. This rank is used during alliance selection, where 3 teams are paired off with each other. Each alliance competes in the Elimination rounds, which determines the Tournament Champions and Finalists. The Tournament Champions qualify for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship.

Lincoln Intermediate VEX Tournament Elimination Rounds
The Elimination Rounds are used to determine the Tournament Champions. During the Elimination Rounds, Alliances of three different teams are formed. Each leg of the Bracket is a best of three, with each team in the alliance getting the opportunity to compete.
