The McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament was another exciting Middle School VEX Robotics tournament that included teams from both Nebraska and Iowa. The competition is heating up with some amazing designs and new strategies. Teams competed for qualifying spots at the VRC Heartland Regional Robotics Championship.
This tournament qualified four teams for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship, the Excellence Award winner and the three Tournament Champion teams. The Excellence award was awarded to team 3919C (Young Guns) from St. Patrick’s Catholic School. The Tournament Champions were 3018V (Vexcalibur) from Techna Pwn Robotics, 3141R (Random Bits) from Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School, and 985B (Spartans) from Mary Our Queen School.

McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament Awards
Excellence Award
3919C (Young Guns) from St. Patrick’s Catholic School were awarded the Excellence Award. This is awarded to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in building a well rounded VEX robotics program. This award also qualifies the team for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship & CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Tournament Champions
McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament Champions were 3018V (Vexcalibur) from Techna Pwn Robotics, 3141R (Random Bits) from Daniel J. Gross Catholic High School, and 985B (Spartans) from Mary Our Queen School. The Tournament Champions are the three team Alliance that wins the Elimination Rounds of the tournament. This award also qualifies the team for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship & CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Tournament Finalist
McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament Finalists were 1060A (Brobots) from Buffett Magnet Middle School, 1073D (Murphy’s Law) and 1073F (21 Bolt Street) from Marrs Magnet Middle School. The Tournament Finalist are the three team Alliance that ends second in the Elimination Rounds of the tournament.
Programming Skills Winner
3018V (Vexcalibur) from Techna Pwn Robotics recorded the top Programming Skills score at 91 points. This award also qualifies the team for the CREATE U.S. Open Robotics Championship
Robot Skills Winner
3018V (Vexcalibur) from Techna Pwn Robotics recorded the top Robot Skills score at 105 points.
Design Award
985D (Not Found in Nature) from Mary Our Queen School were awarded the Design Award. This is awarded to a team that demonstrates an organized and professional approach to the design process, project and time management and team organization.
Sportsmanship Award
985F (Process of Alumination) from Mary Our Queen School were awarded the Sportsmanship Award. This is awarded to a team that has earned the respect and admiration of the volunteers and other teams at the event. The Tournament uses ballots for this award.
McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament Qualification Round Results
The tournament starts with Qualification Rounds, which are used to determine how you rank during the tournament. This rank is used during alliance selection, where 3 teams are paired off with each other. Each alliance competes in the Elimination rounds, which determines the Tournament Champions and Finalists. The Tournament Champions qualify for the Heartland Regional Robotics Championship.

McMillan Middle School Robotics Tournament Elimination Rounds
The Elimination Rounds are used to determine the Tournament Champions. During the Elimination Rounds, Alliances of three different teams are formed. Each leg of the Bracket is a best of three, with each team in the alliance getting the opportunity to compete.
